Vented Stoves

Over the life of the Partnership, many other projects have been tackled in addition to the clinic and educational initiatives. These include the construction of community centers and school rooms, the purchase of agricultural land, establishing breeder hogs for a village co-op, and digging new fresh water wells.

Currently the Partnership is sponsoring the construction and installation of Lorena stoves in village households throughout the Chimaltenango region. These simple and efficient stoves have many benefits. Without a stove, meals are often prepared over an open wood fire on the ground in the kitchen area. The stove properly vents the cooking smoke to the outside, provides a raised work surface and uses 1/3 less fuel. The Clinic finds that one of the most common ailments among women is respiratory, emanating from improperly vented wood smoke.

The cost to construct and install a stove is $90 and the present need is virtually limitless. The Partnership is now accepting donations towards this project in any amount. The Partnership is constantly on the lookout for additional village based projects which can be addressed. Once identified, they are handled as resources, manpower and time permit.
